London's burning.
Just go back to word of mouth.
As we seem to be on a roll with two-in-succession 'not really MLM' clips, now's likely as good a time as any to slip-in another—this time Brit punk-rockers The Clash, in early performance.
With absolutely nothing at all to do with MLM, the relevance here is the genuine 'total authenticity' with which they went about their stuff. If this business had more of that—and was waaaaay less 'fat Elvis in rhinestones'—the world would be a better place.
And, next time someone's slagging you for being in Network Marketing, just smile and tell 'em Joe Strummer said it's ok:
I think we're going to have to forget about the radio and just go back to word of mouth.
Ok, so maybe he wasn't speaking of MLM. But—and this is a highly-constructive albeit contentious 'but'—maybe 'word of mouth' really is how to build a Network Marketing business? That's how it began, and undertaken in that early-and-authentic version had few drawbacks and certainly not the subsequent hype, bad reputation and high fail-rate.
And he also noted 'the future is unwritten'—definitely something to bear in mind when you're hitting the phones or whatever you do when prospecting.
